If you are looking for a free camp where you can put your boat in and try your luck with fishing and crabbing then this is the camp for you.

Elliot River is a hidden little gem off the Bruce highway that a lot of travellers miss. Guthalungra is the closest town (well petrol station) to this camp.

What’s special about this camp?

So peaceful and private

Because a lot of travellers miss this camp you don’t have to battle for space. There is a small fishing community that lives out at Elliot River. The best advice they gave us is camp away from the water as they do get king tides.

Fishing and mud crabs galore

We got to enjoy this small area for over a week. There is a boat ramp that is easy to get your boat into. Lots of little-hidden places to put your crab pots in the mangroves. We loved being on the water and if you have a bigger boat than ours, you can get out to open water quickly. We had a lot of success with the mud crabs here!

This camp is not difficult to get to, however, it is down a dirt road. The best advice I can give you is follow the map on Wikicamps to find the turn-off (off the Bruce Highway onto Wally Sproule Road).

5km down the dirt road and through a gate (that states its private property, but apparently it’s not) we came to a little fishing shack village. At first, we thought we were in the completely wrong area but the instructions on Wikicamps said to keep going through the town and you’ll see the camping area.

Elliot River is a fantastic fishing spot.  Be warned, this area does have mangroves which means sand flies will love you 🙂

Please check the latest comments on Wikicamps for the latest information on this camp.
